I Never Planned to Write a Quilt Pattern

I Never Planned to Write a Quilt Pattern

If you would have told me a year ago that I’d be sitting here learning EQ8 software and writing quilt pattern instructions, I probably would have laughed. 💛

And yet… here we are.

What started as a simple watermelon quilt idea for a customer slowly turned into sketching layouts, testing fabric combinations, figuring out border math, learning entirely new software, and discovering just how much work goes into writing an actual quilt pattern.

Honestly? It’s been hard.

There have been moments where I’ve stared at the screen wondering why in the world I decided to try this in the first place. But there’s also been something really rewarding about watching an idea slowly become real.

I think that’s part of what creativity often is — trying something before you feel fully ready for it.  The Freshly Squeezed watermelon quilt 🍉has become more than just a fun summer project at this point.  It has pushed me to learn new skills, think differntly, and trust the process a little more along the way.

And even though the pattern is still a work in progress, seeing the planning pages, color layouts, and cover ideas coming together has honestly been exciting.

Somewhere along the way, this little watermelon quilt project even ended up getting a real pattern name — Straight On Till Morning.

Honestly, it felt like the perfect fit for a project that has stretched me creatively while reminding me to just keep going, one step at a time.

Sometimes the projects that stretch us the most end up teaching us the most too.
