🧵 Helpful Notes for Quilters (Binding, Backing & Pattern Differences)

These 3 Yard Quilt Fabric Bundles include the three coordinated 1-yard cuts you need to make a complete quilt top. Binding and backing are finishing steps, and how much you need depends on the pattern you choose. Here’s a simple guide to help you feel confident:

🪡 Caroline’s Sew Can She Patterns

Caroline’s 3-yard quilt patterns follow a straightforward structure:

  • ✔️ Three 1-yard cuts make your quilt top
  • ✔️ Binding is added separately
  • ✔️ You choose your own backing fabric
  • ✔️ Most of her designs recommend 1/2 yard for double-fold binging

Caroline treats binding as part of the finishing stage, not included inside the 3 yards.
Many of her free patterns pair beautifully with these bundles.

🪡 Fabric Café Patterns

Fabric Café’s 3-yard quilt patterns use the same three 1-yard cuts, but with a key difference:

  • ✔️ Their 3 yards include your quilt top AND single-fold binding
  • ✔️ The binding included is single-fold, not double-fold
  • ✔️ Backing fabric is still purchased separately
  • ✔️ Their cutting diagrams make very efficient use of yardage

Because your bundles contain the same three 1-yard cuts, shoppers will have enough fabric for single-fold binding when using a Fabric Café pattern.

If a quilter prefers double-fold binding, they will want to add an extra ½ yard of the binding fabric.

(Fabric Café kits sold on my site already include the binding required — this note applies only to bundles.)

🧵 What Your 3 Yard Quilt Fabric Bundle Includes

Your bundle provides:

  • ✔️ Three coordinated 1-yard cuts
  • ✔️ Enough fabric for your quilt top
  • ❌ Binding (unless your pattern builds it into the cutting plan)
  • ❌ Backing

Whether you need extra fabric depends on your pattern and whether you prefer single- or double-fold binding.

🧵 If You Already Have a Pattern in Mind

Check your pattern for:

➡️ Does the designer include binding inside the 3 yards?
➡️ Or do you need to add ½ yard separately?
➡️ How much backing fabric does the pattern call for?
