Starting Something Simple (Without Overthinking It)
From the Cutting Table 💛
There’s a point in every project where finishing feels really good…
…and then there’s that moment right after, when you think, “Okay… what should I start next?”
That’s where I’ve been this week. 💛
I haven’t started stitching anything just yet… I’ve just been pulling fabrics and thinking about what I want to make next—and honestly, that’s half the fun.
Not wanting anything complicated.
Not wanting to overthink fabric choices.
Just wanting something simple I could sit down with and enjoy.
I’ve realized over time that the hardest part isn’t always the sewing…
…it’s the starting.
Choosing fabrics.
Second guessing combinations.
Wondering if it will “turn out right.”
It can stop you before you even begin.
This is where I always come back to the same idea:
👉 simple is better
And honestly, it’s why I love working with fabrics that are already coordinated.
When everything already works together, you don’t have to stand there holding bolts and guessing.
You don’t have to pull ten options and put nine back.
You can just… start. ✂️
Lately, I’ve been reaching for pieces that feel light, summery, and easy to work with—
soft florals, simple prints, and collections that don’t need a lot of extra thought to come together.
The patriotic fabrics I’ve been working with lately have been especially fun in that way—everything mixes so easily, and it takes the pressure off trying to make it perfect.
And I’ll be honest…
I’ve also been unpacking a few new fabrics this week, and it reminded me just how easy it is to fall in love with a collection…
…and then immediately feel stuck trying to figure out what to do with it.
That’s exactly why I keep coming back to simple starts.
So if you’ve been thinking about starting something new, but haven’t quite gotten there yet…
This is your reminder:
👉 it doesn’t have to be complicated
👉 it doesn’t have to be perfect
👉 it just has to be something you enjoy
Start small.
Pick something that already works together.
And give yourself permission to just begin. 💛
