Christmas at Pooh Corner and a New Quilt Idea

Welcome back to the Cutting Table! 💙

Sometimes a fabric collection arrives that immediately starts your imagination running.

That was exactly what happened when I discovered Christmas at Pooh Corner from Studio E Fabrics. As a longtime Winnie the Pooh fan, I originally purchased the collection because I wanted some for myself. While exploring the coordinating projects, I discovered the free Presents From Pooh quilt pattern designed by Matthew Pridemore of The Whimsical Workshop. That's when a new idea started to take shape.

The original pattern finishes at approximately 56" x 68" and features charming gift blocks that beautifully showcase the festive Pooh fabrics. What caught my attention was the opportunity to highlight individual scenes through fussy cutting.

A Quilt Wrapped Like a Present 🎁

One of my favorite things about this design is that the quilt itself looks like a collection of beautifully wrapped presents.

The gift blocks create natural frames for favorite Pooh scenes, letters to Santa, holiday illustrations, and winter moments. The design feels playful, nostalgic, and beginner friendly all at the same time.

As I studied the pattern, I began wondering what it would look like as a smaller keepsake quilt.

Adapting the Design

With permission from the designer, I began exploring a smaller version that finishes at approximately 44" x 52".

My goal was not to change the heart of the pattern. Instead, I wanted to create a version that used less fabric, required fewer pieces, and worked beautifully as a baby quilt, lap quilt, wall hanging, or holiday keepsake.

To complement the Christmas at Pooh Corner prints, I paired the collection with coordinating Riley Blake Shabby blenders and Timeless Treasures Shimmer fabrics. The result creates the look of ribbons and bows wrapped around each gift block.

The Magic of Fussy Cutting

One of the features that makes this quilt especially fun is the opportunity for fussy cutting.

The Dear Santa print is filled with delightful illustrations, letters, and beloved Pooh characters. It makes the perfect fabric for highlighting favorite scenes within the gift & border blocks.

No two quilts will look exactly alike. That's part of the charm.

Each quilter can choose the images that mean the most to them, creating a project that feels uniquely personal.

Bringing Pooh to the Cutting Table

One of the things I enjoy most about quilting is discovering new ways to use a pattern or fabric collection. Sometimes a project begins with a pattern. Other times, it starts with a fabric collection that simply refuses to leave your imagination.

For me, Christmas at Pooh Corner was one of those collections.
